Barefoot in the Hunsrueck-Forest

hunsrueck02Last Friday I was invited out for a great roam through the forest with some great guys I have often worked with. We met in the Hunsrueck area, about 110km NNW from where I live.

I believe up there is one of the most beautiful forested areas in Germany. Slate stone shows it’s rugged face poking through the mossy floor of light mixed woodland, water flows along it’s slaty river-bed, looking so fresh and clear; the ruins of old water-mills scattered along the stream. I really enjoyed it.

We walked for about 18km keeping close to the river, sometimes right next to the water, sometimes high above it on the steep banks. Of course I wouldn’t be me if I hadn’t gone all the way barefoot.

Borreliosis – Symptoms and Treatment

borrelios_thumb

It’s over five weeks ago now that I got bitten by a tick, just like other times before, but this time the bite lead to a borreliosis infection. Luckily with Melanie’s help I found out what I had early enough to get it treated, so it seems I’ll get over this without any further damage, even though having and treating borreliosis is a pain in the neck.

The most obvious syptom can be the typical tick bite itching, then starting to become sore and about the size of a 1 Euro coin; after a while a red ring begins to appear around the bite. You can find lot’s of photographic examples of this in the web. If you have anything like this just go to a doctors and get yourself treated, as obviously something is wrong. Not always though is this picture as clear, does this ring appear as obviously; or as in my case you don’t realize for a while you’ve been infected by a tick because it somehow got brushed off you, it’s stomach-fluids being squeezed into you in the process.
