Everyday functional work-outs

20151011chopwoodMust be just about my favourite chore around the house, making firewood for the winter. I’ve been doing it every year for about 23 years now, and I always have thoroughly enjoyed it. So did I enjoy it this autumn.

The very best part of it for me is the chopping. I just go and saw the trunks that I dry as 1m to 1,2m logs into chunks about 30- 35 cm long. Then I get my axe and put all my power into chopping them into pieces that will fit into our ovens. Most people think I’m nuts, not using a sledgehammer and wedges. But, apart from the resinous smells and being outside splitting wood with power and chi, what I really love about this chore is the fully functional, whole body work-out. YES! So I never choose the lazy way. Every bit of it makes me happy!

Of course one great key to enhancing your life-quality by doing this kind of job, instead of suffering the pain, is to do it properly! Use your whole body. Stretch a bit beforehand and get yourself warm, if you’re not just about always warm, like I am. Keep your back straight and let your power come out of your legs and hip, before it shoots out of your arms and into the wood.

Enjoy a few minutes of film, covering my last wood-chopping session below!
Get outside & move to your roots!
