Barefoot in the Hunsrueck-Forest

Barefoot in the Hunsrueck-Forest

hunsrueck02Last Friday I was invited out for a great roam through the forest with some great guys I have often worked with. We met in the Hunsrueck area, about 110km NNW from where I live.

I believe up there is one of the most beautiful forested areas in Germany. Slate stone shows it’s rugged face poking through the mossy floor of light mixed woodland, water flows along it’s slaty river-bed, looking so fresh and clear; the ruins of old water-mills scattered along the stream. I really enjoyed it.

We walked for about 18km keeping close to the river, sometimes right next to the water, sometimes high above it on the steep banks. Of course I wouldn’t be me if I hadn’t gone all the way barefoot.

hunsrueck01A very rooting feeling. Slate feels very soft to your feet compared with other stones.

My friend Matthias documented our stroll with his camera and sent me these two pictures of myself barefoot in the forest.

Get outside and move to your roots!
