A green-smoothie a day keeps the doctor away…
A green-smoothie a day keeps the doctor away! How true is that?! But what is so special about these green smoothies?
For my part I have got into the habit of making myself a great big jug of green smoothie every evening; I drink half of it straight away and put the rest in the refridgerator for the next morning.
When I get up the first thing I do is drink a glass of water, then while I am waiting for my tea-water to boil I stir up my green smoothie and have a glass of that. I always put lime- or lemon juice in my smoothies, not only for taste but also because it keeps them fresh as it serves as a great anti-oxidiant.
Green Smoothies are just a fantastically easy and efficient way of taking in fresh raw greens; greens that have hardly any calories but are packed full of important minerals and other nutrients. Calcium for example is so high in kale and co that it’s not really even worth thinking about milk, especially as milk takes up loads of energy to digest and more than that modern studies prove that milk can be a cause of deseases like osteoporosis instead of preventing them as the milk-producing industry has been teaching us for yonks.
I’m afraid I can’t remember where I read this or who said it, but I love the idea that green vegetables spend all their day harvesting the sunlight and transforming it into something good and rich we can take in to our bodies, this is exactly what we should do. Also drinking green smoothies allows us to take in a lot more raw green vegetable than if we were to try to eat this amount in form of salad; this way we can get a real super-boost of energy without loads of extra calories, sugar, fat, whatever,… just energy.
The point of green smoothies though is not to fill your shake with loads of sugary sweet fruit and then add a bit of green, the point is really to drink the greens and get the nutrients that we can only get through loads of good fresh and should be organic greens. Have a little surf through the internet and you will find loads of good information on and recipes for great green smoothies.
Get outside and move to your roots!
