Starting with a good breakfast
This morning I had a lovely time having a good breakfast with Artur; he thoroughly enjoyed it too. Whenever I can take the time I try to have breakfast with him; often enough I miss doing so because of a job I have to go to.
Today we had lot’s of time and that was great. Artur will be three in September and wants to do everything himself…. of course he does. So after practising a few times during the past weeks today he finally cracked the eggs himself and let the inside drop into the pan for us; and I was amazed that this time he managed to keep three yolks whole, didn’t drop any shell into the pan and kept all surrounding the pan clean. He was so excited about his own success that it made him jump up and down squeaking! Then he told Mummy what he had accomplished.
We had scrambled eggs with bacon, mushrooms and onion slightly fried with terragon, mountain-salt and pepper, tomato-slices with oregano and olive oil, pieces of melon and peach; it was delicious. Artur didn’t want the melon though!
Nowadays it is hard for me to imagine that only just over four years ago I would start my day with a non-filter cigarette, while I made myself a coffee that I would drink with my second cigarette. I wouldn’t eat anything until a few hours after getting up, neither would I drink any water. In fact it’s amazing what a body can take .. but for how long?
Now I start my days with a glass of water and a stretch. I must admit that I do get back into bed after making coffee and enjoy drinking it there, but then I get up and have breakfast. I appreciate very much what it does for me starting my day. My choice of foods is usually very close to paleo, so no grains, starches, sugar, nothing that’s been industrially processed; I have meat, fish or egg for protein, vegetables for carbs and sometimes fruit, not always, and I eat a few nuts or seeds for fat, or I use olive-oil as I did today. This kind of breakfast gives me loads of energy in a constant manner without creating this digestion-down you may know after the fast sugar has been used and digestion begins to use more energy than you have to stay focussed.
