Lucky to have found a lovely garden!

Lucky to have found a lovely garden!

Garden_01For quite a while now Mel and me have been thinking about how great it would be to have a garden. Especially now that Artur is almost three and learning so much so fast. Of course it would be wonderful to have a place where we could show him how herbs grow and help him grow his own carrots and radishes and lettuce.
Of course we’d have bonfires and spend family time and time with friends by the fire, baking potatoes and stick-bread, just the kind of thing little boys enjoy (and big boys too)!

Just the other day we found a lovely garden; that is really it found us. Mel had advertised on the internet that we were looking for a garden as a family; it didn’t take long until an elderly man contacted us saying he might just have what we were looking for.

So I phoned him up and we made an appointment to meet him at his garden to have a look and negotiate. He turned out to be a very friendly and open-minded person, but being elderly and having another garden nearer to where he lives this one was just too much for him to cope with. He offered it to us for nearly nothing just to see the garden enjoyed and well looked after.

Garden_02We are so grateful for this good fortune. It’s just outside of town with a view over the fields and easy for us to reach. The place has to be cleaned up a bit first because it hasn’t been properly attended to for a few years now but then it’s going to be a wonderful place. There are ten fruit-trees growing in it, apples, pears, cherrys and peaches. plenty for us and to share with friends. Soon we will be growing fresh herbs there and other things to eat and teaching Artur how to do it all. How exciting that is. I remember how excited I was as a little boy to do things like that with my Dad.

Also we’ll build a beautiful fire-place where we can sit as a family and with friends enjoying the warmth and fascination of bonfires. I believe that sitting around an open fire is something truely magical; and one of the deepest parts of being human. fire purifys the mind and spirit and opens us up to communicate with our hearts and to dream.
I’m sure we’ll be sleeping out there every now and again.

It seems that everything is there when we’re there! What a blessing!
