Moveroot on Samhain 2014

Moveroot on Samhain 2014

samhain14
Today is November 1st 2014. Known broadly as Halloween, but an older name for this old fest is Samhain, pronnounced sowen or soween.

Our ancient celtic ancestors, or mine anyway, celebrated the beginning of their new year around this day. The old year had been lived, the harvest had been brought in and enough food had been stored for the winter.

Traditionally back in August a sacrifice of an animal had been brought and it’s blood shed over the fields, symbolizing the slaying of the corn-king whose sacrifice and blood would make the earth fertile again for the next season of crops and hunting. This God/King had now conquered the shadows of the underworld and prepared the underworld for his Goddess who would follow him there now at Samhain.
Together they would rule in the underworld until the light became stronger again and the days longer.

For us this underworld is our subconcious, our shadows, our fears. We have to conquer them and prepare ourselves for our next season of sowing. This is the time of year in which becomes clear to us what it is we need to work on and change and we know which steps are to be taken in our own lives to achieve what has to be done. Are we going to do it and be able to plant a seed of vision and light next year?

also now begins the time of year in which the veil between the world of the living and the world of our ancestors is said to be very faint and thin; it is easy to communicate between the worlds. It is the time to remember our ancestors and gone loved ones and to give them a place in our hearts. We can light a fire for them and ourselves and use this to connect, or sit by candle-light. If we wish we can put out some food and drink in a special place as an invitation to those we are connected with and who give us support.

All in all, we are entering the time of year in which we step back into our own circles and regenerate and recapitulate, becoming ready for the times to come. The darker the season gets, the more we can become aware of our dreams and find peace within ourselves.

Enjoy the video I’ve made for you and have a wonderful magickal winter. Use this time of year to reflect on what has happend and what you have achieved during the passing year and to create a good strong vision for the year to come!

Get outside and move to your roots!
