Learning new patterns

Every now and again, it’s a good idea to learn something new. In fact I believe we should do this as often as possible.

The paleo concept today is more than just nutrition and functional work-out. It is a general attitude and approach to life.

The people of the early stone-age had to be extremely flexible on all levels. specialists would hardly have a chance. Of course some were better at this and others better at that, but all in all everyone would have to be fully capable of doing a great variety of things. Instead of trying to create conditions around human lifestyle, which is more or less what we do today, paleolithic folks would have to be able to adapt to any environmental change, straight away. Not being flexible enough to adapt meant not being flexible enough to live.

Today we tend to think we can just let ourselves go and there will always be something to compensate our missing ability to adapt. I don’t think that this is a healthy attitude.

There are many levels of adaptation. one is giving our body positive stress, conditioning our bodies to be adaptable, by varying our workouts, fasting every now and again, having a cold shower in the morning and so on.

The following video shows me trying something out that I couldn’t do when I was twenty, I couldn’t do it when I was thirty or forty. Now I am 43, and I can do it, even though it certainly can be perfected. I’m working on it, ’cause the whole bridge business is one of my weakest points. Have a look and enjoy my clumsiness and my capability to adapt physically. In two weeks from now I shall be perfecting this exercise without trying it every day and I shall be moving on to the next level. We all have this potential!

Get outside and move to your roots!
