moveroot’s keto-experiment and training
Really great this keto diet! Wow, I never run out of energy. I’m on day twelve now of eating ketogene, that is loads of good fat, from vegetable and animal sources, saturated and unsaturated. Then of course you need some protein, minerals, vitamins and co.
So I eat enough meat, eggs and fish, but mostly fatty stuff like wild meat with fat in it, mackrels, fish liver. I have loads of avocado too and olive oil and macademia nuts. Apart from that I eat about a tennis ball sized portion of broccoli or similar a day for fibres and carbs.
I feel that this diet is really close to paleo, at least if you stick to it using only natural foods. In the winter people living in areas like I’m living in now would not find any fruits, only scarce vegitation, their diet would most probably consist of many roots and nuts, fresh meat and dried meat and animal fat. If they didn’t find enough, they would have to live of their body fat for short periods inbetween. So evolutionary, our bodies should be programmed to spend a great deal of time in a non carb, high fat mode and easily get into ketosis; burning fat for energy instead of sugar, and producing ketons, that make the fatty energy accessable especially to the brain. I mean, we didn’t just survive using this kind of nutritional strategy, we rally thrived to more or less rule the world.
So we’re eating much more fat than protein, and we’re eating much more protein than carbohydrates. These are the most basic rules of a keto-diet.
For me today was day 12 on this keto experience. My whole system has been really stable for 6 or 7 days now. I have a very constant energy level during the day, without phases of fatugue or lack of motivation. I have no craving for any kind of food, but easily can thrive off two meals a day, that i take when it’s time to.
Today I went on a 12 km interval-run, training for the trail run next weekend. My muscles didn’t tire, I didn’t feel the need to eat sraight after, but was fully content, apart from a drink of water. I then sent the day with my family and friends, and now it’s 11.20pm, and I’m awake and concentrated, writing this article.
I am truely impressed by this diet, and I think I shall use it as a body cleansing method a few times a year. Personally I thoroughly enjoy the greater variety of the paleo diet, and shall stick to it on the long run, maybe now in a greater awareness concering carbs, after this expreiment-
