Wow people, it really is coming! Spring is showing her lovely face, peeking through the dying veil of winter at last.
It was two days ago that I went on a beautiful walk along the banks of one of the old Rhine loops, that nowadays are no longer through-flowing due to them straightening the river bed over a hundred years ago. These places give a hint of what a wonderfully rich and winding river the Rhine must have been until then. Still today these former banks are full of life and fantastic areas to walk and run, and I thoroughly enjoy spending nature time there. There’s always things to discover, wildlife to watch, and you can always find a quiet spot where no one ever seems to go.
Here I found a load of tinder sponges and cut one open to let you all see inside. It’s the compressed fluffy flesh just under the cap that can be used as tinder and will hold a steady ember, glowing for a long time.
Spring is gradually taking over everywhere. Although winter is still present, all over nature little bits of green are peeking out, some of the early trees are flowering, crocuses and other early flowers weave carpets through the woods and fields and where ever you go you can hear birds singing their spring songs. This all makes me really excited, I love the lush green of spring, the fresh air and all the signs of life, where ever you look. Or the smell of blossoms, grasses and herbs as they explode into growth and life.
This great tree cradle was a super place to enjoy the sunshine and have an apple, watching some swans paddling along the shore on search for food.
Below is a video I made out of some material I’d filmed this winter and never published, a winter fun scramble. Just to remember that I had loads of fun then too.
