Niches for a varied lifestyle – playgrounds and co.

The paleo playground… the playground… where are they, the urban niches where we can move freely and functionally? Work off and fuel up with energy at the playground… On Sunday I was on a gerat playground with my family, pretty near to where we live. One of a series of playgrounds with great facilities for anyone to get their energy out and playfully get whacked, no matter how old or young or strong.

This series is a group of playgrounds made mainly of natural materials, like acacia trunks, piled up and screwed together like a heap of Mikado sticks. You can climb, hang, jump, crawl. You can practice hopping from trunk to trunk, landing on the spot, and more and more. Practice balancing along a high log, squatting on it, turning round and so on.

Where we were, there are thick ropes to balance along, slides that you have to be big enough to climb pn, or else you need Mum or Dad to go on with you.. which really makes it fun. And when you’ve finally got up there and you’re standing way up in the red glass box, and then you slide down the long chute, it’s so exciting that you want to do it again and again. … Especially if you’re a kid!!

The big pile of acacia trunks is ideal to climb across to crawl over, forward crawl, backward crawl… You can spend loads of time trying out various techniques of crossing over or through this great element.

What a load of fun! Best of all was the fact that we could go there as a family. Every one had just what they needed to get a real good move out. Each one of us according to their level of movement and strength. Even our two year old little girl did all she could, and managed ever so much, in fact.
Urban playgrounds can be great places to move, have fun, work out! I managed to get myself really happy and tired on that playground, an the rest of my family got it all too. I balanced, climbed, jumped, crawled, hung, I did it all.

On the way back home my wife dropped me off a few km from our home, so I had a good nature stroll to get back home. When I’m working as I am at the moment, I need this kind of nature time to keep centred and relaxed and rooted. So I really had all it needed to get prepared for a weeks work with no need for feeling stressed out or anything like that.

No matter where you live, there are always so many possibilities to get outside and move to your roots, to move and get balanced. You just have to keep your eyes open and watch out for the opportunities that you are offered. And they are endless. Get a bit of fun and movement into your daily routine. Get outside and move to your roots!
